climate control noise when turning wheel?

I have a 1989 260E, the best car I have ever owned! I think I have just found an excellent mechanic and I dont want to alienate him in any way. I just had him replace the blower motor and switch.($750. + labour.) Finally I have heat again!

I have discovered that when turning the steering wheel sharply at slow speeds there is an electrically sounding clicking sound - fairly loud. If the blower is turned off the sound does not occur. If the blower is on and I am not turning the steering wheel sharply the sound is not there. At higher speeds turning sharply the sound isn't as loud and gets louder at slower speeds - possibly because you can turn sharper.

What is the connection between steering and the climate control blower motor?

Thanks in advance for your help.
Brent.

Brent, there's no connection between the steering wheel and the blower motor. The blower motor does need to be installed in exactly the right position because it can contact the inside of the housing. There's very little margin for error. I've seen slightly wobbly blower "cages" cause exactly the problem you mention. If you really have found a good mechanic, he won't have a problem re-checking his work if, as you imply, the noise started immediately following the repair. Don't worry about "alienating" him either. If he is the real deal, he'll worry about alienating you. Good luck

ILUVMILS,

Thank-you for replying. I appreciate your response and will return and advise the mechanic. I have some additional work for him and will let him know right away.

Again Thanks,

Brent.
