Unhappy fog horn in the rear

It went to 44.1 degrees Celcius today, never been so hot for ages! Last few days, the atmosphere around Melbourne was so smokey like those days you guys had when it was coming from the Sumatra burn outs. We have been having uncontrolled fires in the northern parts of our state of Victoria and Canberra and also New South Wales. The grass and timbers are too dry with very hot and dry weather. Only needs a wild lightning strike or a spark from a passing truck, car or train to cause this.

In this heat, my car is running hot and the aux fans are running to keep it cooler. Also for the first time I heard this "fog horn" sound which is different to my rear buzzing last time. The fog horn went on for 7 to 8 times after I parked my car in the garage. I was really surprised to hear this as it never happenned before. I think it must be the heat thats causing it. Sounds like a Benz with constipation or just too much gas! Seems to be coming from the rear bottom(fuel pump/filter area) or the vacuum pump in the boot. I cannot pin point its source. What can this be if anyone can help? Can it be the battery letting off some accumulated gasses? or is it the petrol tank letting off fumes though there is no fuel smells.

It's the same!!!

Hocky

Kidbenz is acting up in exactly the same way. Fog horn sound can be heard after the car is switched off...though in this car, it's only once or twice...

Today, for instance, there haven't been any sounds.

Stay well.

Azhari, unless it was changed for your later model year car, the vacuum pump for the door locks is under the rear seat bench. It's a fairly likely culprit for A) doing things of its own accord and B) Making sounds like a fog horn, so it might be worth having a look there. I would try running for a day or two with the pump's fuse out, or with the power connector removed from the pump.
Remember to lock your doors manually! And you'll have no locking fuel flap either.

good luck

Solved!!!

Kidbenz's problems solved this week!!!

Hard-start issues and fuel smell at rear of vehicle eliminated by replacing fuel pump. Fuel filter also renewed.

Air-con compressor failed this week and was also replaced, fan belt renewed as well as it looked beat-up.

Also screwed ourselves this week.

Put in a 2nd aux fan last Saturday by modifying the existing bracket which holds the original aux fan. Put in necessary wires/relay and all was well...at least till a couple of days ago...

After closing the bonnet one evening, my brother noticed that the 2nd aux fan had conked out. A little while later while closing the bonnet again, the 1st aux fan conked out...both a result of imperfect modification to the bracket.:p

Now, both aux fans are useless with each fan having a couple of broken blades...well i guess, IF IT AIN'T BROKEN,...

Cheers, y'all.

Talking aux fan fun and games

Mine was operating for the first time on 25/1/03(Summer) since I bought it in April 2002(Autumn). So obviously the temp gauge sensors must be working ok . Most of the time it is on standby only and when it gets above 35 degrees celcius outside, I think it will activate as the radiator and engine fan are barely coping. I have 2 original aux fans on the front plus the engine fan with clutch. There is also a plastic aux fan mesh/bracket in front of the blades to "protect" the blades from UFOs. Most of the time, nothing can get through the Benz grille anyway except for some stupid insects that get sucked in!!! I get this a lot driving on country roads here where there are lots of flies and other flying insects. I would like to put on one of those "bull bars" in front to protect the front end if a kangaroo hops on to the road in front, but its ugly except on 4WDs which make them look so AGRO!!

Remember about the front bonnet protectors mentioned last year? Its the hard/clear plastic ones with clip-ons I'm looking for. Not the thin flexible Scotch tape type sold by others in KL and USA. Please ask around if they have any, I haven't seen any here as they say its not profitable to make for Benzs cos they don't sell like Toyotas and Mitsubishis and Nissans.

Post a picture of your Benzs' insides if possible. Can you tell me how to post a picture as you have done? I don't have a scanner, only a lowly PC for kids here. The printer is colour, but the cartridges here cost gold dollars! We make do with black and white only.

The fog horn incident hasn't repeated itself so far. I have a 1998 C200 on my driveway now, black in colour and it belongs to a friend. It goes like a jet when you step on it, most unlike my snail C180. Looks like Benz fixed the motor's rough idle, mechanical noises gone(it purrs), different injection setup, very tight chassis and doors, altogether different from my first version. Well, maybe mine is a lemon or an accident case before, don't know.

Cheers!
