Question Wind noise from the dashboard while presing gas pedal

1988 300CE (124)

For a some time already my car drives like s..t. Main problem is that when driving sometimes the car chokes even on the highway at speeds around 80 m.p.h. While driving at steady speed suddenly car slows down and to keep driving I have to release the gas pedal and than de-pres it again. Looks like to drive it I have to keep pumping the gas pedal every few seconds. This happens aften but not all the time. Yesterday I've noticed that there is some wind sound coming from the behind of deshboard at windshild. At first I though this is a fan or radio speaker noise. Turned everything OFF but the noise is still there. The only time it stops is when accelerating or presing the gas pedal down. Could that be vacum leak? Please someone help.

Just found the source!!!!

Thanks for help!

Just found the source of the wind sound. Still don't know what it was, but it was right behind the break power booster when the little spliter is with two small rubber hoses connecting with two small plastic hoses. One of the plastic hoses came out of the rubber hose and made this sound. Was this a vacum component? Could this make the car drive like sh..t?

Hello Daniel,

there are 2 things behind dashboard that can make a wind like noise. First is the economy gauge in the instrument cluster. It uses vacume and if the rubber hose connection behind the cluster is off, you will hear a noise and the economy gauge will not work. The second source is the headlight adjustor nearby headlight switch. The rubber house split thing located behind the brake booster supplies the vacume to economy gauge and a headlight adjuster.
My car's heating system buttons don't use vacume but yours may.

Hope this will help.

You are right my friend

This was the economy gauge in the instrument cluster. At time of the noises the economy gauge did not work and now it does. Now is the question: Could this make the car run like sh..t? The fact that the Cruise Control does not work could mean anything?
Thanks for help, do.
