E55 air filter location

I have a quick question for you experts.....How do I check the air filter on my 2000 E55? I am assuming it is located under the big plastic cover. If so, then how exactly do I remove it so that I can get at the air filter? Thanks in advance for any input.
Kyle

The front part of the plastic cover comes off first, no tools needed. Lift it up at the front and sides, then it slides out toward the front. with that removed the filter housing is removed by lifting it straight up. When re-installing the housing make sure it fits properly around the Mass Air Flow sensor. A small amount of lube is helpful. Good luck
