Vibration from the rear of 560 sec
 

When I am taking off from stop making turns with a slow speed, there is vibration form rear end of my 90' 56sec, it will go away when the car turns straight, it is less noticible if I push the gas pedal a little bit harder. It seems like always happen when the car start moving and turnning. The vibration seems like coming form the differential and is really bothering me. I brought to my mechanic and was not able to duplicate the sympton, any idea?

On my 1988 300CE got the same thing
 

Have no idea what this is, but also think that could be a differential. Could low level of the differential fluid couse this? I hope this is not it! $$$$$$

also be sure you have the correct diff oil for limited slip if it has limited slip. Mercedes makes the right stuff but it's expensive.

Most of time it runs perfect. Just the shaking/jumping feel really really bothers me. Any other input is welcomed. Probably just have to bug my shop.

MB differentials are fairly durable, though if neglected or in freak incidents they may fail. Check your axle halfshafts first to make sure there is not excessive play. Steering straight takes it away - which way were you going before straight, does it only do it from one direction?

Either turning right or left makes the same jumping/shaking and it appears to me turning left is more noticible.

Finally my mechanic was able to duplicate the problem I decribe and they concluded that it might be a bad differntial. They also mentioned it is very rare. The option I have are live with it or get a new/used unit, any suggestion that what and where to look for? Does it need to be the same model, same year?

I could be way off here but could it also be a flex disk or a driveshaft carrier going south? Have you checked these?

sure sounds like a limited slip problem, I had a Dodge Power Wagon with rear limited slip that had a similar problem, the soultion was to find an emty parking lot and do half a dozen figure eights the problem would go away for six months then more figure eights........

It`s your Limited Slip. Try changeing the fluid and be sure to add the GM fish oil. You may still get a small amount but it should be better.
Another trick is to drive the car in circles in a counter clockwise direction.

Why does this happen? The car only has 45,000 miles on it. Sorry to ask, what is the "Fish Oil"?

It`s just limited slip additive. They used to make it from cod fish

I guess it is compatible with the MB diffrential oil. Please verify.

If you get the MB limited slip diff oil, you don't need the additive. If you get regular diff oil you do need the additive. Don't know about synthethics. They leak out of mine diff. cause the gasket is old. The MB stuff is 26$ a quart, I think.
