Which Techron

I was at the autostore and they have two products from Chevron with Techron.

The first one is called Pro-Guard and it is recommended for cleaning injectors.

The second one is called Techron and is a fully synthetic formula and the label says that it is a fuel system cleaner.

Which one is the better of the two or is there any other recommended product?

Thanks in advance.

You know I am glad you asked. I have been known to be found standing at the auto parts store isles wondering the same thing .... so I went to their site and lo-and-behold there are not two but actually four Chevron PRO-GARDŽ Products! Included is a little decision matrix to help pick the right bottle.

Take a look: Techron flavors

I've never been a "snake oil" fan, but must admit that on occasion a bottle of the Chevron Pro-Guard seems to smooth things out.

I've also noticed that I get about 1.0 - 1.5 mpg better using Chevron gas vs. the local Burp-O brand.

Folks,

I don't know a lot about fuel additives, but for my money Red Line System1 fuel system/injector cleaner is the best. It really does work. A noticable difference after a tank of gas w/ treatment. Not cheap but it works...

I agree with BrianC. I've been using Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner for a couple of fill-ups now, and liked it so much bought a case. A bottle costs around $3.50, but my mpg went from 21 to around 24, so I think it pays for itself. Plus it seems to smooth out the ride more.

Hi sparq27,

Where did you buy the redline fuel system cleaner for that price? Seems to be a great deal.

Thanks.

There's a local store that carries it. It's a hard thing to find. I hit up like 7 auto parts stores before I found it. I did find this on the web

but you'd have to pay shipping.

Redline treats up to 100 gallons too. what ration have you been using to get a 3mpg increase?

sparq27 01-23-2003 05:46 PM

I used the full bottle the first time. Since then, I've been using 1/5 of a bottle every fill-up.

I haven't tried the Redline but I have had great results and 2mpg increase with the Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant with Injector Cleaners and Fuel Conditioners. It also treats 100 gallons of Gasoline or Diesel Fuel. And as a bonus it is environmentally friendly. Great stuff. Much better than the Techron in my opinion.

K

Its about seven dollars for a quart bottle.
