My friend has a 1984 190D. The car's steering takes on a mind of its own on wet or slippery roads. It will all of a sudden pull to either side without warning and without turning the steering wheel at all, yet it will run perfectly straight when letting go of the steering wheel. The alignment is right on. the balljoints etc are tight. I turned the steering wheel to either extreme position while standing and noticed some delay in response.

It may seem crazy but I was reading somewhere else on this forum about someone having a similiar probem and they traced it to their power steering. They changed the internal filter (easy) and changed the PS fluid and it stopped.

Might benefit from a steering box adjustment to take up excess play.

If there is not enough steering wheel play, there will be problems too. Bad tires (pulling) or alignment (off) will be more obvious in wet weather.

it might be air trapped in the power steering system. Bleeding it and replacing the filter should fix it right up if everything else is fine.
