E300 2.5 timing chain failure
Is it me or are there more posts about E300 2.5 timing chains failing than 300SDL heads cracking or 350SD/L rods bending?
What are the telltales if any of OM602 chain failure? What is the frequency of E300 2.5 chain and/or guide replacement that keeps chain failure in check? Why haven't I read of 190D 2.5/t timing chain failures? Thanks, Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

I think its you I've not seen any timing chain failures at my mechanic, but I have seen engines that have cracked heads or turbo failures.

In the last 8 months we have had a 606 with a broken chain and a 603 with 17 degs of stretch in the chain here.
I always recomend checking the timing and degree of stretch of one of these with more than 100k on it. Still not a perfect check for chain condition but, with the costs of repairing one that popped a chain, cheap insurance. Just be sure to look at the gears closely as well. There was a bulliten on the earlier 603's as well. Joe
