I'm off to the MB Technical Training Center in beautiful Montvale N.J. for three days of new stuff!!! Mostly about the new E- Class(W211). I'm hoping to get a look at a Maybach. Wish me luck!!!

BTW, really enjoy your contributions to this forum. We are really lucky to have as much technician help that we get.

Just saw the Maybach at the Detroit Auto Show last week; the only word I can find is "overwhelming". The new RR Phantom was also there; the Maybach I found a much more attractive and interesting car. Not that I've got to worry much over the choice; I'm not exactly a candidate for the $350,000 car market!

While you're in montvale, visit the BMW NA facility as well. they're in the same town. that's if you're interested in that car

Well, I made it back in one piece, but my brain is a bit fried! I've been going to MB Tech Training for almost fifteen years(including one trip to California)and I'm always AMAZED at the things the engineers come up with. This week we covered Semi-Active Suspension, Senso-Tronic Brake Control, Distronic(radar operated cruise control), Keyless Go, Dual Battery System, 4-Zone Climate Control, LOGIC-7 Sound System(420 watts!), as well as the latest in electrical networking. The one topic that I know will be popping up at this forum though, is the new FSS PLUS. If you thought the previous FSS led to some lively discussions, you'll all love this system! The technician or the owner can display what items require attention by using the multi-function steering wheel and the instrument cluster. It also knows when the front brake pads are 50% worn. Unfortunately, I just missed the Maybach. There were a couple of them there last week. I also didn't get a chance to take any pics', but I promise I will next time. Seeya

Did they tell you of there was a fix for the gateway not communicating with srs yet?

Hi Joe, we've had some internal paperwork on this for about six weeks now. Depending on the codes found, the fix is either a new EIS or an updated Central Gateway(CGW). There's no testing required, the fix just depends on the codes. Version coding the new CGW is where the fun starts. The info can't be transferred from the old CGW to the new one. It needs to be done manually, and there's a ton of stuff that needs to be entered. The CGW is a pretty neat idea. It includes several functions previously accomplished by other ECU's(EIS, ICM) as well as utilizing the new CAN D databus. By the way, I'm certain you'll like the 211.

Hey Joe, sorry, I gave you some wrong info! Forget about the EIS. I meant to say the Automatic Child Seat Recognition sensor(B48). The rest of the information is still valid. I double-checked first thing this morning. Sorry for the mistake.
