Sylvania Silverstar vs Euro Headlights

I do a bit of driving out in the country and I found these for $25 a piece. I currently have Euro headlights and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a noticable differenceand is it worth the $50.

Thanks

Others here I beleive it was hassman, posted the website which is www.sylvania.com/auto/silverstar.htm . Have been seriously considering a set myself. Plus a $10.00 rebate to boot. They are four bucks cheaper at Advance Auto.

I have a set on my Expedition. They offer a nice, white light (no blue tinge) and a subtle, but perceptible, difference in visibility. I'm looking at a Sylvania HID-conversion kit as well, but at $700/pair I may wait.

I have a set of Philips Vision Plus H7 for '00 E430 and H4 for '94 Lexus LS400. Philips claims that Vision Plus generates 50% more light due to using Xenon gas. The light is a somewhat whiter and much brighter compares with standard Halogen bulb. I paid $40 for H7 and $28 for H4, shipping included. I bought these bulbs from autolamps-online.com.
I am not sure if Sylvania Silverstar is the same as Osram Silverstar which also generates 50% more lumens than standard halogen bulb. Both Philips Vision Plus and Osram Sylverstar are not available in North America. If you like to see the road better at night, Philips Vision Plus H4 at $28 is a better buy. If the appearance of your headlight is more importance, Sylvania Silverstar is for you.

Sylvania = Osram, so yeah, the Osrams are the same. They are MUCH better than any of the PIAA's out there, and they're street legal too. Probably the best (cheapest) lighting upgrade you can do, besides re-aiming your lights.

If the new Sylvania Silverstar (available in North America) is the same as Osram Silverstar, then it is as good as Philips Vision Plus in producing up to 50% more light, and Philips V P is not available in North America. If Osram Silverstar H7 can be bought for less than $40 in America, I will try it when my current Philips V P is needed to be replaced.

Don't think your going to find them for less than 40 as you stated!

Did any W210 owner try Navra H7 65W Ultra High Output (2100 lumen) ? Standard H7 produces only 1335 lumen. How does this high output bulb compares with the high efficiency plus 50 such as Philips Vision Plus and Sylvania-Osram Silverstar? Daniel Stern at lighting.mbz.org has this high output bulb at $29.50/each plus shipping.

H7 vs H4

Will a H7 bulb fit in a H4 socket / headlight assembly? I have OEM euro headlights in a 87 190-16v.

My dad has a 02 320E with H7 and I like the light out put on them.

Also, have we figured out if the vision plus is the same as the silver star? I want the best light out put possible.

God I hope this does not turn into another "what oil should I use" thread lol.

No, H7 bulb does not fit the H4 socket. The most cost effective for your car is buying the very high efficiency plus 50 H4 bulb such as Philips Vision Plus or Sylvania-Osram Silverstar. You can but Philips Vision Plus H4 for $28, shipping included, from England via autolamps-online.com. I bought Philips VP H4 and H7 light bulbs from them about 2 years ago and very happy with the improvement over the OEM. I kept the OEM for spares.
I re-read Sylvania and Osram web pages, I think the Silverstars under two names are the same. But if you are not sure, then stick with Philips Vision Plus or Osram Silverstar, then you are sure to get the bulb with 50% more light than standard one. One thing for sure: do NOT pay big bucks for PIAA.

Davidmash,
H4 bulb has two filaments for high and low beams, H7 bulb has one filament and is used as either high or low beam. W210 has two H7 bulbs for low beam and two H7 bulbs for high beam. W124 needs only two H4 bulbs for low and high.

Hi benton C280,
did you install them already? How about installing one side only first and then compare them to each other pointing down your driveway or the neighborhood street? How does 50% more really look like?
Regards

I only last month tried the 9004 Silverstars (for my 300E US) and was not pleased with the very minor increase in visability. I really do not care for the blue-white look(from the drivers seat onto the road) and it didn't really help me see the road any better. The front of my car looks better with the whiter appearance of the headlight unit , but WHO REALLY CARES about that,, give us more light out further on the road.

Part 2 Not liking those Silverstars, I purchased some 9004 for off the road use in a non legal 80/100 watt version. It did not cause any problems with my wire connectors or bulb sensor unit. It two had that darned blue coating on the bulb surface and just like the Silverstars by Sylvania the light on the road surface is weird and gray-blue. Doesn't really do what I wanted. I am spoiled by the HIDs in my Acura TL These higher watts units are available at some O'Reilly Auto Store in US . The 80-100 ones are somewhat better but it not really worth the cost. I haven't tried to see if that blue dye is removable , but if it is on the outside of the bulb I may try removing it.

Euro headlamps must be the only solution?

H4 should be available in higher wattages without that blue color, they are available at some motorcycle shops.. I have one 800/100 H4 in my Yamaha FJ1200 and the one light does more than the two did in my MB.

Luck to you,
DanielW
