Question How to tell when a distr. and rotor have gone bad?

Yesterday I opened up the distributor and found every connection burned black. The resistance between inside of the distributor to plug connection was almost infinite. The middle spring loaded black thing did also have resistance over specs. Is this a way to determine it's condition? By measuring resistance?

The rotor was also worn at the tip. Could this bad rotor and distributor cause intermittent stallings? If bad connection between distrubutor and rotor this would cause the whole firing sequence to be cut off, right?

Any advises are appriciated.

Distributor cap and rotor are some of the most important parts in the ignition system. Wear on those parts can cause all kinds of problems.
Difficult starting (hot and cold), misfiring, reduction in power, higher fuel consumption, and everthing in between.
If you see pitting, burned electrodes, black deposits, electrical arcking or any strange looking things, do not hesitate. replace them.
