1976 230/4 123 windscreen wipers

Dear Colleagues

When the ignition of this car is switched on the windscren wipers run and cannot be controlled from the operating stalk. The stepped opeating switch feels right. The only 'event' which occured immediatelt prior to thisoblem was that the alternator was drenched by radiator water as art of a head gasket replacement job. This is a right-hand drive car with fuse box, washer unit and starter relays etc on the right. Battery is on the left.

Before rushing off to an auto-electrician I wondered if any owner has seen this before.
Pointers on what to look for will be appreciated a great deal.

Thankyou

Ed

My guess would be a flooded relay or some such.
