Methyl hydrate

Is anybody familiar with using methyl hydrate (denaturated alcohol) in the fuel.
I read it helps to reduce CO emission, and that some people use it to pass the annula vehicle inspection.

Cheers!

If you are in a major metropolitan area where "reformulated gasoline" is sold, it's already in there.

Have a great day,

Methyl hydrate is wood alcohol= methanol, The main component of "HEET" and other gas additives that eliminates free water from gasoline.Water is not "removed" from the gasoline, it goes into solution with the alcohol, which is soluable in gasoline.

Reformulated gasoline has MTBE- methyl tertiary butyl ether- in it as the active compound. not methanol. RFG may or may not have ethanol in it.

As far as helping a vehicle "pass" an emissions test, RFG burns cleaner, but if the vehicle is out of fuel control and emission components are defective or missing, it in itself is not a fix.

Alcohol is being substituted in place of MTBE by the EPA as it is a ground water and air pollutant. California is already switching, and Unocal gasoline already is MTBE free.

Well, Mo still uses MTBE. as does several states that are not as environmentally concerned as Ca. So the issue is, the fella in Europe ( Non- EPA regulated ) must discover if his gas is RFG with MTBE.

I agree
I've used methal hydrate on several occasions where I thought I might have a little water in the fuel from condensation in the gas tank. Boats are especially are bad for this.
MH also seems to make the car run better. Not sure if it raises the octane or wheather its my imagination.. It might be one of those things like your car seems to run better after you wash it.
