OVP relay damage
My 85 380 SE was having idle problems, after replacing the idle speed control computer it got much better, but not perfect. Now the idle continues to surge on occasion, the approx. 500 rpm idle is rough and and ABS light comes on intermittently, sometimes for a brief flash, sometimes for minutes at a time. I suspect it is the OVP relay as it runs both the ABS and idle speed controller. My simple question is: can a faulty OVP relay harm your idle speed controller or ABS or is my car OK to drive until I get the replacement relay?
Thanks to all, this is a great site. Cheers, John |

Did you check the fuse first?
I am not sure about your car, I do not even know if has an OVP but, in my 124 the OVP was updated with a two fuse OVP. You can keep driving it until you get a replacement. Just remember whatever caused the OVP to go bad may still be there. Now that the OVP is gone, you may not have the OVP protection for those expensive electronics parts.
Replace it soon!
