91 560SEL hard starting
I experienced a rather unusual hard start yesterday. I parked , went inside a store for about 10 minutes, went back to my car, started it, and it will not start. I tried probably 10 times and will not start ( it cranked a couple of times but dies). I stopped for a couple of minutes, started it and it started normally. As far as I can remember, I probably experience the same thing once about 2 months ago...
Is there anything that i should check for? I just do not want the chance for this to get any worse... thx |
The OVP is a good place to start. Basically a big fuse -- This was happening to me in extremely cold weather. It would take 6-12 cranks to turn it over.
Try a search with OVP and 560 or some such query, tons of stuff out there. Easy to replace yourself as well. Try this link (a search of OVP and 560) |
thx for the response. I know i came accross this OVP once before, but can you pinpoint exactly where the OVP is on a 91 560SEL?
thx again |
i do believe that the ovp is in the fuse box. it is a silver relay with a red (maybe) fuse on top. its about the size of an ice cube. hope that helps....by the way...how do u like ur 560? im thinking of buying a 91 560.

Hi emmydotnet,
in an 87 420, the OVP has a red head with a fuse on top and sits close to the firewall as you can see on this picture. I assume it looks the same on a 560. Regards Reinhard Kreutzer |
Looks the same as my 560.

thank you all for your responses. I will check it out. I will probably try the resoldering...
Scott500SEC: I am happy with my 91 560SEL. This is the last model year of this body style, and hope it will last for many many more miles. currently i have 145,000 miles on it. |
