Lamp Monitoring Circuit on E320- Lamp failure

The Lamp Failure Lamp on the dash board comes on when I put transmission lever into REVERSE. I checked the wattage and lamps and they are correct. The lamp failure light does not come on when engine is started and all lights are on, only when shifting into reverse. Any help is appreciated

Did you check the back-up lamps? Usually the bulb-out light comes on only when the affected circuit (i.e., the one with the bad bulb) is in play.

Thanks for your responses. I have checked both backup lamps and they are new. Both are 12V/ 21 Watt (P21) from the dealer.
All other lamps are working and up to specs. I am at a loss.

If is not your back up lights...

then it may be your brake lights. Check all three of them, including the rear window light.
