HELP!! SMOKING MB, not cool
Hello,
I have been having a little trouble with our '88 190e 2.3. When it sits and idles for a few minutes (like waiting in line at the carwash) it smokes in a huge way for a couple minutes and then it is fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in Advance, Kodiak

the smoke is mostly white, a little blue perhaps. Like I said, very very heavy for a while and then fine.

white smoke usually indicates a head gasket issue. Are you losing coolant?

engatwork is right on, white is is usually antifreeze I am afraid. Although it can also show a bad brake master cylinder, however, that does not go away. But burning off the antifreeze would. You can also check for oil in the coolant resevoir. Bad news I am afraid.

Those are the classic signs of worn out valve stem seals. Are you using oil or coolant? If it's oil, get new valve stem seals. If it's coolant, pray it's just a head gasket.
