OK, so from full upright with no pressure on it to the time the pedal starts to engage the throttle cable, how much travel?

Haasman, it's been long enough since I replaced the cable in ours that I don't remember for sure - but I think both ends of the cable are adjustable. If you take out all the freeplay you can, though, the cable should not be pulling away from the microswitch at all - and the linkage still allows some freeplay. This bothered me at first, but with a smooth moving cable and linkage, the transition as the pedal is depressed is so smooth that pedal travel is somewhat irrelevant.

I had a problem once with my old Integra where the throttle butterfly was sticking at full closed - it would open with a snap as the pedal was gently depressed, causing a jerk. Cleaning the throttle body solved it. If you are experiencing a poor transition, I would suspect that the linkage freeplay is not the reason.

Another item a tech adjusted once to improve the transition is the cable to the tranny. I don't know why, but it helped, and smoothed out other shift points as well.

Thanks Steve.

Throttle transition and the trans bowden cable seem good. I messed around quite a bit with the bowden cable and I am very pleased with how it is working.

It is the throttle cable/ accelerator play that I am trying to cure. Yes I can ignore it, but I was wondering if I should replace the cable or is there an adjustment where a bit more of the play can be removed, other than at the throttle linkage by the throttle body.

Rechecking my Haynes manual, it calls the cable end adjustment at the pedal the 'idle speed end stop adjuster', and the one at the throttle linkage on the engine the 'full throttle stop adjuster'.

It says the full throttle adjusment is made so with accelerator fully depressed, the throttle is at its wide-open stop. The idle adustment at the pedal end just takes out any slack when the pedal is released - at idle.

It also mentions first popping out the connecting lever ball - the lever that connects the upper linkage down to the throttle. This connecting lever is adjustable. Adjust it so its socket lines up with the mating ball with the linkage moved back in contact with the idle stop. Then reattach.
