Attn! W124 Owners

Hello eveyone, I know Im not the only one with this problem this is why I'm asking for your help. This is in regards to the wiring harness of 93-93 w124 with the 24v I6 motor. I as many of you have experienced have had a wiring harness decay problem that Mercedes says doesnt exist. What Iam asking is for all of you with this problem is to complain to the NHTSA about it. Hopefully with enough complaints(They already have 14) they will force MB into a recall. And for those of you who have already replaced yours hopefully they will then reimburse you. I love my Mercedes but this sould be taken care of by them.

Thanks for reading
Chris

Chris

Thank you for the updated link.

I went to the site, went through the menus but I am stymied as to which selection to choose: Elecgrical, battery etc. Which did you choose?

Actually I called the 800 number and filed a complaint, but if i were to choose I would go with electrical.

A question concerning the Mercedes safety recalls. There are items for a 1992 Mercedes 400E, I've read were there are suupposely certain safety recalls. One of the recalls was a for the plastic hose line rerouting, I received a letter from Mercedes, and the repair was done. Other safety recall items I've read about are for the wiring harness, a protector to be installed for the wiring harness, and the recall for the actual wearing/chafing of the wiring harness. I never received notification from Mercedes concerning the wiring harness.
Does anybody know if these are a Mercedes safety recall?

And is this the problem/complaint you are talking about Chris?

The problem is familiar with owners with the 24v I6 motor, is has to do with the insulation around the wiring, as it ages(some as few as 36k miles) it begins to crumble and fall off and causes shorts and a fire hazzard, as of yet there is no recall on these models.
Thanks Chris

Hi Chris, I called my dealer and asked if there was a recall for my car concerning the wiring harness, he cover the two recalls they did for me, but his search indicated no MB recall for the wiring harness for my car.
I see from what you are saying it pertains to auto's with the 24v 16 motors. It is interresting to me because ALLDATA list my car for the recall, does ALLDATA list your auto?
Chris, I went to the Mercedes Club forum, and it seems several of the cars are having the harness replaced under the good will replacement. If you have not maybe you'll want to review the comments there.

enjoy your drive, timreid

the recall for "wiring harness" on the w124's is not the main engine wiring harness which is the problem being referred to on this thread. there has never been a recall on them and MB has never acknowledged that there is a problem.

i compiled all those nhtsa reports into a pdf and uploaded it in one of the threads on this same subject. you should be able to find it with a simple search.
