'95 SL500 Purchase Recommendation?

My buddy is about to make a deal on a '95 SL500. 9500 miles and showroom condition. I don't know asking price at this point.

What's the good, what's the bad, and any complaints?

TIA

I can't think of any "glaring" weakness that these cars have like some of the other models like W140 and W124's that have problems with head gasket leaks (on the 3.2 liter engine), wiring harness problems, or evaporator leaks.

Thanks for the quick response. I know it's an open ended question, but I'm not familiar with this particular model.

Things to Look Out for on Low Mileage Car

You're describing a car that has only been driven an average of 2000 miles a year. All the fluids should be changed and there may be leaks from dried out gaskets, etc. Is he sure about the mileage? He should buy with the right to opt out of the deal after the car has been inspected by a competent Mercedes shop. I hope it's as good as it sounds.

Further Thoughts re Low Milage SL500

I see you are from Wisconsin. Why not look the knowledgeable and straight shooting Gilly who posts here and have him look it over? That assumes, of course, that your buddy lives nearby.

Thanks for the reply(s). There was one previous nutty owner - changed oil every 600 miles and .....well....you get the picture.

Since it's my friend's car, it's up to him to be satisfied regarding history and such - and if he decided for an inspection, I would have recommended Gilly.

The car was picked up last weekend and now resides in the garage with a custom car cover. It won't be really driven until spring has sprung. I'll keep you posted if things turn out in an unexpected way.
