124 rotor question

While replacing the brakes and rotors on my 300D today, I broke the retaining screw that holds the rotor to the hub housing. I fiqured it was okay to drive since the lugnuts go through the rotor and into the same housing. I plan on drilling out the broken screw and replacing ASAP. In the meantime, am I correct in assuming that the car is fine to drive?

Your assumption is correct.

Yes, it is certainly safe to drive. I would, however, remove and replace the screw as soon as possible. Hopefully you steel brushed the hub and rotor mating surfaces.

By cleaning both surfaces and using the retaining screw you will minimize the chance of warping your new rotor.

Good luck,

OK

I understand the retainer was used at the factory to hold the rotor in place during assembly. I had one of mine stuck and had to drill it out and retap the hole. No big deal, but finding a replacement bolt that fits the slot so it's flush with the rotor will be challenging. Getting the original out without damaging the treads is the best route. Problem is the existing one is small.
