Jacking points for W202, and some other questions...
 

OK, I know this is pretty simple, but I just want to be sure of this because it's very important. So it's going to be my first time changing the oil in my 99 C230 Kompressor. It's gonna be tough to get to the drain plug and drain the oil into the pan without jacking the car up (jacking from the passangers side because the drain plug is on the drivers side). Anyways, I know that there are 4 points that the car can be raised from, i'm talking about that area where you can put the MB jack in and raise the car for changing a flat tire. Is it alright to jack up the car right beneath that area? But then where would I put the jack stand if I lift up from that area? Obvious answer would be the frame, but isn't the frame that area where you jack the car up for changing the flat tire?
What other areas can the car be raised from? There is a metal brace that extends from one side of the car to another right behind the oil pan, i'm guessing this is the cross-member, would it be alright to jack up from there?

Check under the "jacking point" access doors on your lower body work. You'll find some rubber floor jack holders, and they work really well. Please remember to add jack stands, and NEVER work under the car while using a jack.

However, have you tried changing the oil with the car on the wheels? I can reach on mine. I have only done it once, as I use the LiquiVac now, but I was able to do the work without raising the car.

Yeah thats what I wanted to know, if I jack up from there, where will I put the jackstand?

I don't think the drain pan will fit under the car, its a pretty tight fit, but i'll try anyway. Getting to the drain plug isn't a problem with the car not lifted.

1994 C280. Not really answered here or via a search re: w202.

The jack pads are clear, but where do you put the jack stands for working on the front end. Ramps are not an option (no working trans/lowered car. Does anyone have a diagram of the jack points beyond the four pads/covers? There must be other spots. TIA. Michael

You can place jackstands on the mounting locations for the lower control arms.

Stock height? Just get a set of Rhino ramps. Thats how i do my 2.3-16 190e.

Nah, a friend with a lift put Eibach's on right before the tranny went. Plus, I have no forward gears. I suppose I can lift and slide ramps, but I have none and plenty of jack stands.

FWIW, the Haynes manual for the w202 shows and says, "axel stand under one side of the front suspension crossmember" for the alternate in the front and "axle stand under rear flange, inboard of rubber support block" for the alternate in the rear. They stress that you need to use a thick, wide block of wood between the top of the jack stand and the underside of the car. They make a special note to say you should not place the stands under the front suspension arms.
