Key Cylinder the cause of a no start??
I have an issue with my 300E. If I turn my key on to start the car I get one shot at starting it up. Past that I cannot get anything, no noise nothing. All indications are that the battery is fine (radio, lights, etc...) I've tried the nuetral shift select, wiggling it in park, turning the steering wheel to lock unlock. All indications are it's something with the key cylinder.
Is this possible, common, crazy??? It runs fine if I catch the first turn of the key! Thanks! 300E 219k

I had a similar issue with my car.
In my case, it turned out to be the mechanism inside the "T" (I do not remember the technical name) where the lock cylinder connects to, broke off. The part (the "T") is not expensive but it is kind of a pain to take it out. The symptom I had was the car was working fine one day. I went to start the car and nothing. The key would turn with ease but, nothing.
It may not be the same problem but, you never kow... Good luck!

By design the ignition switch is set up so that it must be turned fully 'off' before turning it back to 'start'. If everything is really working great, the engine can be so quiet and smooth it might fool some folks into trying to start it when it is already running.

Was the "T" a piece or separate from the key cylinder? Sounds like a similar situation. Curious as to how you got at the "T" and did you get a replacement at a MB dealer or local auto store.

If you are new to the car ... that is normal. You only get one chance and then you have to return the key back to O position and try again. Haasman

Sorry when I say I get one chance, that means I get one shot at starting the car. Returning the key to the O position and turning back to the far right produces no effect.
It's something from the key cylinder to the starter relay or starter that is creating the no start. The update is that I went back out yesterday to try and start it and didn't even get one chance to start it. Doesn't appear to be a nuetral switch issue as I've move the selecter back and forth, tried starting it in nuetral. All lights and electrical appear to be strong, battery posts are clean. PDX Ballard

The name of the part is ignition lock housing!
Go to FastLane, under steering, they have a picture and price.
Double check to see if that is your problem before buying. Good luck!

Well I bit the bullet and took it to the shop (no time to do myself) and it turned out to be the ignition switch contact points. $150.00
