In Vermont the weather is described as "6 months of winter and 6 months of lousy skiing". Y'all down south will still be on the golf course in a month.

I feel for yall up North. We can only ski between April/May til about early October. Short sleeves or a light jacket are normal on Christmas Break but we do get rather chilly in January and February (20's and 30's).
PLEASE don't get mad at this, I lived for a year in Detroit and froze my a** off with 17 below zero blizzards and snow storms. I hope I brought a grin (evil or otherwise) to you.

-20 Celcius and a wind of 40kmph so really it's more like -45

did I mention it's still like that in for four months in the year?

Yesterday morning we broke the previous coldest overnight temp for March 8. The previous record was -32C, and it was -42C at about 8am yesterday morning. We also had a brisk wind, meaning SEVERE windchills. Many places in Alberta had windchills of lower than -50C.

Spring? No spring in sight in these parts...

Of course this is a joke. Man can't change the climate any more than my German Shepherd can.

Man, I feel sorry for you guys who live in cold climates.

As you can see, I live in Southern California. I travel all over the U.S. and Canada on business, and I have never been to a place that has better weather than So. Cal.

We are already experiencing spring weather (although we don't really have a winter). It seems wherever you live in So. Cal., you are within a one hour drive from any type of weather: a one hour drive to the desert (Palmdale / Lancaster to the north, Palm Springs to the east); a one hour drive to the mountains with snow in the winter and an alpine climate (Idyllwild, Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, Mt. Baldy); and a 30 min. to 60 min. drive to the Pacific Ocean. It also goes without saying that San Diego is but a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from L.A.

Yesterday was about the most ideal weather you could dream up: 78 degrees F (about 26 degrees Celsius). Clear blue sky, perfect visibility, white wispy clouds floating by.

Today looks just about the same.

Another day in paradise....

Here's a pic of this morning weater in Montreal. March 9th. 10 inches of new snow on top of the 4ft we previously had. temp=-16deg.
leaving for Cuba next week end for some sunny beaches.

From memory, this has been one of the oddest winters in the past 30 years in the Southeast US. I am especially tuned into
this because I work with enhancements to weather information on commercial airplanes. So at my office, I start my day off by looking at the various advanced and current weather product forecasts from the AWC, NOAA, ADDS (flight related), and NCAR.

One of the problems has been the downright bizarre nature of the weather--on Tuesday of last week when I left work, the temp was 70 deg F; that morning it had been 38 F. I drove home the long way to enjoy having the windows and sunroof open. About 200 miles away in DC, the temp was between 30 to 45 F that day.

By Thursday of last week, the temps had dropped to all day 30s F again where I live. No open sunroof on Thursday.

Cold weather plays hell on any sort of mechanical equipment. I spoke with the owner of the gas station where I go and he told me that they had been having numerous problems with their pumps from the cold. I had to replace a battery in my Benz that would have functioned normally under Spring/Summer and even normal Winter conditions in the area. I decided to go with an OEM battery with 100 Ah just to have the extra "umph".

We have had more than 15 days here where the temps dropped to -5 to 0 F. That is VERY unusual for this area.

I think that what has been harder on vehicles has been the rapid changes in weather that we have been experiencing (such as last week's). There have been at least 30 days this winter when a block heater would have been extremely useful. But we don't need them with the weather we "typically" have around VA.

Only good news is that we are leaving Winter behind in N Hemisphere so hopefully, Spring and Summer will return to some "normalcy".

I genuinuely "feel" for the vehicles I drive this Winter.

We may have brutal winters, but we:

Rarely have tornadoes.
Never have earthquakes.
Rarely have floods.

We get durned cold, but other than that, we don't have "killer" weathyer or natural disasters. It's not a bad trade off.
