'86 300E - Shift Linkage Bushings
I think I need to replace my shift linkage bushings due to some slop in the lever and a sort of dry metal-on-metal sound when I move it fore and aft gently. I understand that the bushing in the rod at the transmission end is fairly easy to get at and replace, but what about the shift lever end? Can I just disconnect it at the trans and then remove the four bolts that hold the shift lever/linkage/gate asembly from under the wood center console panel and lift the whole thing out from inside the car to get at the bushing? Or do I have to grope around under the car and do it while it's in place?
Thanks, Gary |
I did both of mine from under the vehicle!
Not too hard.
