94 C280 CD changer
I just bought a USA SPEC CD changer for a 94 C280 from Crutchfield that is supposedly plug and play. The car has the Bose system pre-wired (supposedly!) for the CD changer. I searched other similar threads that mention the location of the connector, but no real description of the connector. I have found an open square connector with three wires behind the passenger side trunk wall, but the manual and the wiring harness supplied with the changer requires a 10 pin rectangular connector. Crutchfield tech assistance was not very helpful. Does anyone know any details on the MB stock connector? Do I need another adaptor? Has anyone had any experience with USA SPEC CD changer?

CD Changer for 94 C280
I just had this question about 10 days ago and Gilly answered for me. Search for the subject to read more. The connector is a 10 pin rectangular connector being fed by a wire the diameter of a typical outdoor extension cord. I found that wire tucked in near the wheel well on the passanger side, behind the trim, just as Gilly said it would.
BTW I got a great deal on a MB branded changer with bracket, cover and cassette on eBay. $163.50 including shipping. The bracket was for a different model but a little bending fixed that and it works great! Thanks, Gilly and all who replied to my question on this subject. |

The wire is really wrapped up and taped to the wiring harness, but it is there. Just look for the connector and start unwrapping tape.

Thanks for the info - I'll look again tomorrow. Any ideas on what the three pin connector I found is for? It was found in the same general location.

Good one, Jeff W.! Good name also - hopefully no one thinks I spend my time with witty banter between my multiple personalities. But on a serious note, what is this loose end?
We just inherited this car from my father-in-law, who recently passed away. He was a real-life WWII hero who served as a company commander under Patton in the 10th Armored Division, and also in Korea (Silver Star, 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Purple Hearts). It's in awesome shape with only 57k miles, and was religiously maintained by the dealer. Of course, at a substantial price. What is the best repair manual for it? We were going to sell it, but he loved it and it means alot to my wife so we're going to keep it as a damn nice spare. I'm a 4WD guy myself (2001 GMC Highrider Sonoma, wife has a 2001 Jeep Liberty), but this is a very nice riding car (I'm still working on getting used to sitting on the road). This forum is awesome! |

I'm sure you will find you need an addaptor. I also have a 94 c280 I would like to add a changer to. Local audio stores told me there are only two changers that will work with that car. One is an alpine and the other I cannot remember. They told me the adaptor for that car runs about $65.
