Old power steering filter??

I'm changing all filters/fluids in the 82 300TD and removed the power steering filter. I have a new replacement, but the unit I took out I think is original. It has a top plate and a bottom plate. In the middle is a ring that is porous and allows fluid to filter through it. It is in excellent shape and seems to work very well.

My question, would you replace the old style filter with the new one that I got at Mercedes? I cleaned the old unit and it cleaned up very well. No gunk or damage. It seems to be a phonelic type material that is about 1/4 inch thick and porous. As I said it's in excellent shape.

I'm inclined to use the old filter and just keep the new one just in case.

From one with only a little experience, not to be confused with a Shop Owner.

Use the new filter. It catches much smaller particles than the old fibrous filter can. Best part of it all is that now the steady plate is part of the filter assembly, once you hook into the plate it brings the filter out withit. No more fishing around to get the ring out etc.
