Brake question on W126
my brake light has been on for about half a month now. i couldn't figure it out. i looked at the passenger side rotor (through the wheel), and i notice on the outer edge on the rotor there is 3 grooves cut into it, they are aprox. 2mm deep. the driver side is fine. i look in and saw that i still have a lot of brake pad left. i couldn't get the wheel off (damn shop torqued the bolts down too much). any advices on what these grooves could have come from?

Hi ned2683,
I don't know about the grooves, but to get the wheel off, you might try to stand on the lug nut wrench to put your weight on it. Hollow pipes from household items like broom handles can also work as extensions. Other than that, a stop at a tire and suspension shop could yield some relatively cheap "insides". Without knowing the miles though, its hard to make any suggestions on the rotors, discs or sensors but the light is there for a reason. Have it checked out. Good luck Reinhard Kreutzer |

thanks. i just had this car for about 2 month. the previous owner said he had just done the brakes., and it looks like the pads and the retaining pin are new too. but anyways believe it or not i had stepped on one of those smaller lug wrenches, to the point where it bent a lil. it much be a cheapo one. i'll get it checked out tho.

Is it the Red Brake light? Mine was on and it was the emergency brake not coming all the way up and pushing the button that turns the light off.

I'm referring to the Red Brake light that's on the dash.
When you set the emergency brake the light goes on and when you release the emergency brake the light goes off only if the emergency brake retracts high enough to push the button. If this is the light you are talking about try pulling the emergency brake all the way to the dash. The button is under the dash at the top of the brake. It works just like a refrigerator light when you close the door. |

ya'll need to get an owners manual and read it!:-) if its a red "brake" light then its either a problem with the fluid or the
parking brake as mentioned earlier. if it's a yellow light with dashes going in a circle then its a brake pad or warning system problem. |
