liquivac vaccum pump
 

hello

i just got my liquivac and thought wow! i haven't changed my own oil since 1979.

anyway... i pumped it up, opened the clip and walked out to go home. this morning it hadn't pulled all the old oil out. pumped it 2 more times this morning and was getting quite a bit of oil left in the pan.

what does everyone think about these. is my experience different than others. am i getting enough of the old oil out???

What do we think about it?.... There's been a lot said about the suction method of draining the oil on this forum. A good search will bring up lots of opinion on this method. Try using words like "mightyvac", "liquivac", or "suction". This method is great for those who are unwilling or unable to crawl under the car to change oil.

I personally prefer gravity drain using the drain plug. It gets more oil out. The last bit is dirtiest.

Congratulations for relearning the joy of taking car of your own car. Take comfort in the fact that you'll probably avoid a lot of problems experienced with these fast oil change places.

You did change the oil filter, didn't you?

thanks for your feedback. yes i use to have fun working on cars in the 60's and racing the old hemi but when i got a bit older i figured it was easier to get it done.

after seeing the oil come out the last 2 pumps was near the bottom of the pan and it is dirtier. i haven't run that engine in 14 months. i just finished replacing the cam and rockers so i didn't want to start it with that old oil. thought i'd try the vac but i got some reservations on it ability to get the nasty stuff at the bottom.

i'm going to go and do some searches now this aftn and see if i'm seeing what other people see.

Oh and yes i did the filter i always carry a spare or two in each of my cars just incase and i would never drop the oil and keep the filter.
