I have two rattling sound coming from two different areas in my 16v.
The first area is in the shifter assembly. It makes a rattling sound in there when Im driving. But I cant see what is loose in there just from looking at it from overhead.
I takled to friend about it. He said he had to replace some bushings in there.Im not sure what bushing he was talking about Im hoping some one could specify wich ones they are.

The second area of rattling is in the drivers side front suspension area. I drove with the window down today and notice there is like a constant metalic rattling and when I hit a bump on the road it makes a loud clunk.

Thanks in advance,
Mauro G.

I am fairly sure what your second noise is. Go to the top of the shock absorber, and you will see a small steel retainer bar across the large rubber shock mount. When mine worked itself loose, it made a constant rattling sound just like the one you describe. Tighten it down with an allen key a suitable wrench, using the allen key to hold the shock steady.

You can get the shift bushings replaced, they are a bear to do under the car at home. The cost is about $50.
