I had my wife's 190E 1991 2.6 the last few days. I noticed that on the freeway the tach reads 3200 rpm at 65 mph. That seemed quite high. It goes through all four gears but there doesn't seem to be an overdrive. I researched a bit on the internet and found a "review" of her car that did not list an overdrive. My Mits. Diamante is 2400 at 65 mph so I doubt that her car was designed to rev that high while just cruising. Any thought? (Tires are correct size).
Thanks in advance, Matthew |

Seems about right to me... dont forget, and engine is at its most efficient when its developing most power.... i.e. 4000rpm or so on a 2.6. It was also not designed for loping along American freeways at 55-65, it was designed for blasting up the Autobahn at 100+, and you need power avaliable to do that... no point in overgearing a car, it'll only harm acceleration at all speeds.

The 6.9 was over geared in my opinion, but with that engine it doesn't matter. ------------------ Rgds, Aaron Greenberg MB technician Precision Motorcars, Cincinnati, Ohio '67 250SE Cabriolet '77 450SL '79 6.9 '80 300SD '85 380SE '89 420SEL '93 300E 2.8 |

When my speedo was getting serviced, I used the tach to gauge my speed. 3000RPM = 60MPH on the money. 3200 at 65 is quite normal for a 190E.
