Command 2.5 not working
I just purchased a 2000 S430 in the Chicagoland area. It is already cold and when I start the car the navigation system says erro in reading the cd's put new one in. I have a brand new one in there and it still gives me that message. However, after about 25 minutes and the car gets warm inside the navigation system reads the cd and it work fine. I took it to the dealer and they said that it is normal for a delay in the navigation working when it is cold outside. It is still in the 30's in Chicago.
Any ideas.

hhhmm...
My friend has a BMW 323ci that ejects the DVD occasionally when it's cold out (below 30F). He doesn't seem to be bothered but I really don't think it's normal but I don't know why.. sorry I can't be of much help..

When I was in the car audio biz, we saw this all the time with some CD players. Condensation gets on the laser and/or the CD surface, and the CD player doesn't work well until the car is a little warmer inside.
Have you been keeping the CD in the car at night? This would make the problem worse...

Very common on all comand units when interior temp reaches
less than 40 deg f. there is condensation on the laser pickup that is causing tracking errors.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with DR. DIESEL on this one. This has been the coldest winter in recent memory here in New Jersey, and I've seen fewer NAV complaints this year than ever before. I've seen plenty of COMAND malfunctions, but not many NAV problems. Since the vehicle in question is an early version, it may be worth checking to see if the COMAND unit has had the latest soft-ware update installed. There are several bulletins pertaining to early version COMAND units as well. Good luck

I agree with ILUVMILS. In addition to what he is saying, I am in Wisconsin, only about 2.5 hours away from the original poster (2 hours by MB
 ), and we don't have complaints of this here, or at least no one complaining of it. Have the software version checked and updated, it can fix lots of seemingly unrelated problems, and you can also pick up a few extra features if your current software version is quite old.Gilly ps a few weeks ago we also received from MB a "diagnosis disc" for the comand unit, but I am unsure if this would be helpful in diagnosing the problem or not. If the SW version is the newest version, I would lean towards a new comand unit. Hopefully you are under warranty.

Different strokes I guess. Condensation in electronics is trouble
our shop deals with every week. Get the lastest update for the COMAND unit anyways. Can't hurt. I had a fogged up PSE on an 02' S600 keeping my d2b ring dead until it dried, or I unplugged it and wiped the d2b ends off. That was my cold moisture issue of yesterday morning. DR.D
