Unhappy Need help with this Part

hey guys new on this site well i need help i have a 1993 400e and there is a small element type sensor which goes and attaches to the front ait pipe(hose) on the driver side (other side doesnt has it the part number reads0095426817,
first what is this part and what s its function mine just came off and i wanna know coz it didnt make any difference in teh car,,,,,
and where can get it cheaper

sorry for the spelling mistake well it attaches to the air intake hose on the driver side

That is the intake air temp sensor for the HFM-SFI Fuel system.
It only uses one. If you unplugged it with the engine running,
you might have a stored trouble code by now.
Careful, they are very fragile!

hey thanks for replying well i did take it out coz it came out from the hose and i didnt know what to do and to get the part number i brought it inside the house and the car was running at that time is it going to cause some serious and big trouble or as soon as i put it back it will be ok

If the sensor is ok, the fault code will clear itself after 20 key cycles or so. If the sensor is faulty, the check engine lamp should come on. when it is un-plugged, the computer will just substitute
a fake value to keep the engine running ok.

hey thank sfor repling but i brought it inside to look at teh part number while the car was running are u saying i ll have some major problems by just taking it out i i noticed no difference after taking it out well there seem to be a lot of buildup on the element should i replace it on monday or just put the old back anyway to avoid further problems

If it just fell out of its hole, put it back in there, and see if you can make it stay. If the sensor itself is actually broken (non-functioning) then get a new one.

I have the same problem in my car too there must be soemthing which used to keep it in the whole now when i tryto put in the hole it doesnt saty put it comes off..and about the sensor there seem to be a orange build up on it seems faulty by looking at it so tomorrow (monday) ill replace it one more thing in my 1993 400e i cant find the check engine light i checked my friends 87 260e and he has it in his car i know i sound stupid coz even my 1998 honda has a check engine light ..........
does anyone know wether its an expensive sensor or not ...

There is a funny little gold clip that retains the sensor which usually slides down into the headlamp bucket. Look for it.
It is a spendy little guy at about $14
The sensor is different for many cars and costs from $47 to 100
depending on your car.
