How is the Voltage Regualtor Reinstalled?
It seems as if I have opened pandora's box (once again). After examining the brushes on the voltage regulator, I can't seem to get it re-installed correctly. I've tried compressing the brushes with a flat-bladed screwdriver and pushing it in but the brushes always spring back out before the regulator is all the way in. This is most frustrating. Anyone have any tips, tricks, or techniques? Thanks in advance.

Are there any holes in the slots where the brushes go in? If so, the brushes may be held back with wire through these holes until they are installed, then you retract the wires. If no holes, maybe you can drill some.

This is one of those things that is difficult to describe and even harder to understand and picture, until you actually do it. That said, there is no real trick to it other than patience and diligence. I simply depress the brushes with my fingers and gently guide the new regulator/brush assembly into the alternator.
It will go in quite nicely once you get it. Just keep fiddling at it gently until it slips into place. You should never have to force it. If your fingers are too big, try and get someone with smaller hands...

Guys, thanks for the info... I finally got it back in. My weapon of choice was a jeweler?s screwdriver with a probe tip. It was a lot smaller than the one I was using, and it did the job. I held the brushes down with the tip, since there was no hole to be found anywhere... The only thing was for the last 2 mm I did have to do a little pushing before I clamped the screws down. I hope that's normal.
