300e a/c lights out

On my 1987 30e, the lights on the a/c pushbutton controller all went dark. The dealer said I had to buy a new unit. Are the bulbs inside replaceable? Thanks.

yeah, typical dealership solution. do a search, you can
replace the 2 lightbulbs for less than five bucks!

The bulbs are replaceable!

Maybe a couple bucks each! Just remove the wood portion on top of it. Two screws by the top of the radio. You will see the AC control in front of you. There are a couple of small aluminum foil squares on each side. Remove them. you will see the lights bulbs inside. Get a rubber hose ( I used that) of the same diameter of the bulbs. Catch them and pull them straight out. Push the new ones in place. Install everything back. You are done.
Do a search! I think I seen some pictures somewhere...
Good luck!

light bulbs, buy it from the dealer. read somewhere here
that it might have some negative effect on other things -
it being perceived or real.
