Here in Central NJ: (All full serve by law)

Regular (87 Octane) = 1.55 - 1.60 / gal

Plus (89 Octane) = 1.63 - 1.69 / gal

Super (93 Octane) = 1.71 - 1.80 / gal

There are some oddballs - Getty has 92 Octane Super and usually is about 5 cents cheaper down the line. And then of course there is Ammoco with their ultra 94 Octane that is over 1.80.

In Queens NYC: (fiancee's house - self serve)

Regular (87 Octane) = 1.79 - 1.85 / gal

Plus (89 Octane) = 1.88 - 1.93 / gal

Super (93 Octane) = 1.95 - 2.05 / gal

It keeps creeping up, and im afraid soon the 2 as the first digit will become all too common in these parts.

To think, 3 years ago we were in the .79 - .85 cent for regular, and barely broke a dollar for super.

Cheapest in Temecula, CA as of this afternoon is:

$2.03 reg

$2.13 mid grade

$2.23 hi-test

The higher prices are over $2.30 for hi-test.

Around good old Bland Rapids, MI:
$1.79 regular
1.89 midgrade
1.99 premium

Some stations might get as low as 10 cents less; it can change several times in a week.

87 Oct $1.65
89 Oct $1.75
93 Oct. $1.85

That is shopping around at places like Hess & Racetrac etc.
Shell is usually a nickel more.

Diesel is usually around the same price as 93 Oct. fuel.

Diesel $1.919

Can't get 93 in NorCal anymore.

Shell two blocks away has premium at $2.349

I'm paying whatever they're charging.

I know that you guys aren't whining and complaining -- but I sure am getting tired of those that are.

Of course I don't like paying $1.70 for gas. But you know what? Adjusted for inflation, the price of gas in 1990 would have been $2.50. Seriously, we basically have 10 years in which the price of gas hasn't really gone up that much.

The same people complaining will pay $1.40 for a 16oz bottle of water or $3.50 for a Starbucks. Just imagine what a gallon of vanilla extract would cost!

Actually, what's interesting to me is that the Euro version of my car--the 107 500SL--sold as well as it did, getting 14-17 mpg or so as it did with gas in Europe going $3-4/gallon at the time!

See, most people generally accept inflation as a fact of life. However, it doesn't really phase people because its a gradual rise in price, usually accomanied or at least somewhat offset by a cost of living increase / raise, built into most pay structures, either through collective bargaining or corporate policy.

The problem with gasoline, and energy prices in general is their volatility, not their average cost. People have become used to the lower end of the spectrum, and exibit outrage at the higher end of the spectrum.

When the price of gas rises 50 cents / gal in 3 months - people flip. Especially those who consume large amounts of it. The airlines, and over the road trucking industries are really taking a beating again. About a year ago they would stage "protests" by driving across interstates in all lanes at well below the speed limit to express the outrage at the price. Guess its the american way... People think they can solve all their problems by complaining.

In Sydney, Australia since all the war talk started, price of fuel has risen by 15c/litre.
Don't know how many litres to a gallon but here are our prices:

$1.10/l premium
$1.00/l regular unleaded
$1.05/l super.

These prices are in aussie dollars.

Funny you should mention complaining about the price. I'm not, I mean you gotta have it, but I did ask the filling station owner the other day how he could justify knocking the price up 3-4 cents in between tanker trucks. The way I put it was " the price was X amount two hours ago, now it's up by X and you haven't had today's delivery yet, what gives"? The reply was "corporate office".

That same afternoon my 14 year old son asked me as we passed the filling station "$2.05 (refering to hi-test), that's stupid, do you think anyone really pays that much"? I told, yep I do, because that's what this car takes. He continued asking about the price, etc and my reply was that I have no room to complain, and that there are people I know in other parts of the world paying $4+ a gallon.

I response, I take off a little gentler from stop lights, build my speed slowly but still drive at a comfortable 75-80. It's not how fast you drive, but how you drive fast.
