Thermostat that measures the outside temperature ...

Hello friends:

Am trying to pinpoint a problem that a body shop did to my '93 190e 2.6 when they repaired it from an accident a few months ago. I got a new hood, and I'm thinking that they did not mount the thermostat that measures the outside air temperature correctly. I was driving on a bitter cold day in Wisconsin, and the outside temperature gauge was telling me it was 65 degrees F!! Wishful thinking.

Could someone tell me where this thermostat should be mounted to correctly read the temperature? I'm guessing it's too close to the engine and it's picking up some of the engine temperature.

Thanks friends-
Michael.

I should be hidden behind the front licence plate.
If you remove the licence plate you should see it looking a little like a shortened pencil, with a lug through whcih the fixing screw goes.

It does sound possible that it is hanging close to the radiator.

But if the bumper wasn't removed, maybe the wiring was disturbed/damaged?
