I need to remove my speedometer in a 1978 450SL for re-calibration. What is the correct way to get it out? The steering column is in the way of the instrument cluster. Do I need to partially remove(or lower) the column in order to get the cluster out?
Also, approx. how much should I expect to pay to have it re-calibrated, & do you suggest anybody in particular?

Thanks,
Don Solomon

At the dealer we use "instrument cluster" pulling hooks. First disconnect speedo cable from trans so it doesn't STRETCH. ALso the oil pressure line will have to be disconnected from the gauge once the cluster is pulled out. The steering column doesn't have to be moved.
