Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday, Brandon.

BTW, it's actually at a park at Huntington Beach, not Seal Beach, but they are not too far apart.

I'd e-mail Alon. I think he's done this. I'm sure you'll need to buy wire, at minimum.

Brandon,
You need to splice into the marker light circuit. To do it cleanly, you need a couple feet of wire, the metal pin connector that goes inside the Euro headlight plug, soldering iron and solder, and a bit of heat shrink tubing.

I'm not sure, but on a W124 with bulb-out indicator, you might set off the warning light by doing it this way...

Glen, that install process did not trigger the bulb out MIL on the 126, shouldn't on a 124.

Brandon, I would suggest that you get at least a 45W soldering iron. Its gonna take some heat to melt the factory solder, fairly high silver concentration I think. I started with a 25W iron, couldn't even begin to soften the factory solder. I would also suggest swinging by your nearest MB dealer tomorrow and picking up a couple female socket and 6 pin plugs (if you have already converted to 6 pin for the euros). Part number for the socket is 000=830-19-08 ($1.20 ea), 6 pin socket and and cover #s are 006-545-80-28 and 009-545-30-28 respectively. Total cost for these parts is a whopping $7.20.

Thanks for the clarification, Mike. It's good to know the bulb out warning is not triggered...my 16V doesn't have that feature so I didn't worry about it

Bummer I have been super busy lately and haven't been able to get parts nor will I be able to pick them up today. I guess It'll just have to wait til I get a little more time. Thanks for posting the info though, it will come in handy in a week or so.

Brandon,

If your willing to make a small trip today you can always drive to Escondido Motors off of the 15 freeway. Its the Auto Parkway exit, you'll want to turn right and go up the hill and make your first right. The dealership is immediately on your right. Their parts department will be open until 4PM today and it should take about 35 minutes to get there from San Diego!

Afshin,

He could hit the dealer right in San Diego too I would think. Seems all the MB dealers have the parts counter open on Saturday now. There is one off the 163 around Clairmont Mesa, not sure where Hoen is located and there is yet a third, I think.

Mike,

I really think it depends on the dealership, I know Hoehn isn't open on Saturday's but I've definitely been to Escondido on Saturdays so I know they are.

Brandon,

Mike is right it would definitely be worth calling Penske to see if they are open since I'm sure they're closer. I also know the dealership is brand new and very nice!

city lights??????

hi guys

can i ask what are city lights?

i'm putting clear marker lights and euro's on my 88 126 amongst other stuff. on the new marker lights i was able to use the stock mbz blub plug in base. the one that came with the lights was only a 1 prong light with only a 2 connection base. the mbz are 3 pin so i was lucky it worked.

on my 98 marquis i keep the light sensor covered so i have headlights every time i drive. if i was going to wire up some kind of light i would like it to be automatic on and off with the ignition key so i wouldn't drain my battery by mistake.

thanks for the info

In the US, the sidemarkers are both turn signals and driving lights, hence they use dual filament bulbs. In the Euro spec, the corners are only turn signals and are single filament, which explains the bub base differences. The "city lights" are where the US amber/yellow fog lamps are located, but are clear. Explanations I've read indicated that the lights, which are power independent of the headlights, provide forward indication that the vehicle is a car and not a motorcycle if one of the main beams is not functioning. In the US, many motorist confuse a Euro spec equiped car as having its "high beams" on when they see all four forward facing lamps lit.

city lights are not located where the fog lights are.
they are located inside the headlight assembly itself. it is a 5 watt bulb, similar to a flashlight bulb.

u.s. drivers will sometimes think a person has their brights on because euro fog lights [on a benz] are white.
