Alright fellas, I need some help here.. I just closed the deal on the '79 300SD that's listed in the Shop Swap section of this website. Only problem is that it's in Dallas, Texas and I'm in Cleveland, Ohio. Anyone out there know of a good shipping company who's not outrageously priced, or would anyone be willing to deliver the car to me for a fair sum? While I do have a trailer and a Jeep, I have absolutely no time whatsoever to drive to Texas and back. I guess it might even be cheaper to have the car delivered to Cincinnati since that's 250 miles southwest of Cleveland, and then I could run down there with the trailer and bring it home (or..swap my engine into this body at the shop!!). Ok, any thoughts would help out greatly! Thanks as always! ------------------ Rgds, Aaron Greenberg MB technician Precision Motorcars, Cincinnati, Ohio '67 250SE Cabriolet '77 450SL '79 6.9 '80 300SD '85 380SE '89 420SEL '93 300E 2.8 |

Aaron:
Greetings again from Ohio. I just shipped a car to my brother in New Jersey (a rust-free 1976 Toyota Liftback he bought for $100, with no engine), and it was shipped from Columbus to Trenton New Jersey for $500. There was an additional winching charge, since it could not be driven up the ramps of the transport. I called about ten companies, and they all quoted difference prices, since they all had different pick-ups to make, and the price varied by nature of the car being first on the transport or last. There is no better way than to just get on the phone and ask a quote. Appearently, even though there are ICC rates, they do differ from company to company. Pick up was uneventful, it was within a week of my sending back a contract and a deposit, and drop off was equally uneventful, with no damage done to the car. Peter and I ran the numbers on driving, and with rental of a ttrailer, etc. it was not much more to ship via transport. Have you tried to line up any college students to drive it? Or you might try transport companies who have professional drivers who do the same......Andras |

Andras, Hi there! How's all in the good 'ol capitol? Anyhow, the car in question is lacking the engine and transmission, so it definitely has to be shipped on a trailer or truck. We usually pay $500 to ship our 380SE to south Florida every winter, so I would imagine that Dallas couldn't be too much further distance-wise. I have requested quotes from several companies so far. I guess we'll see what they say! ------------------ Rgds, Aaron Greenberg MB technician Precision Motorcars, Cincinnati, Ohio '67 250SE Cabriolet '77 450SL '79 6.9 '80 300SD '85 380SE '89 420SEL '93 300E 2.8 |

Try Intercity Lines. I am having them ship a SUV for me, and they had the best price. Their phone number is 1-800-221-3936. Ask for Bob. You nedd to let them know at least 2 weeks prior to your anticipated shipping date.
