There is a notch or cutout on the harmonic balancer. Turn the engine until this notch lines up with the bolt and see if this will work. It works with the a\c compressor bracket.

i lined up the cut out and the bolt is 3/8" below it, it just wouldnt pull up into the cut out

ive put the whole shebang back as it was, i discovered the grinding noise from the pump was the dipstick housing rubbing on the waterpump pulley!!!!!

when the thermostat was changed they aligned the dipstick wrongly

ps IS THE LEFT SENSOR ON THE THEROSTAT HOUSING THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR THAT ACTIVATES THE ELECTRIC FAN?

THANKS

SAM

You're not alone

The same thing happened to me after I re-installed a cylinder head on my 380. Except my pulley must be a bit out of round and it was a banging noise. I was sure I had gotten the cam timing wrong and the whole thing was about to come apart.
