Does anyone know of a quality repair method and/or facility that will repair i.e. sleeve a 116-117 V-8 alloy block. I'm thinking more along the lines of steel, not silicon impregnated repair parts that you can buy although at a prohibitive price. Any help would be greated appeciated.

i have the same block material on my 380se
and also on my 944's the mat is reynolds 390 aloy they say it can be sleeved but is not reliable there is a place here in ATL that has done these blocks before on mercs porsches bmw and also the bores in the silicon blocks last longer
i have taken apart some 944 engines that had well over 100k on them with little to no ridge ring on them and the bores are still smooth
i will be getting the bores done (the ones that have been scored up ) with the original process

Mercedes issued service bulletin on this subject, they only recommend alum. sleeves. There are several "approved" machine shops across the country. Have had several blocks repaired at shop in Orlando Fla.

MB Doc is right on the official repair. On another note, I have seen one sleeved with a steel sleeve here in Atl with good results. I'd expect it to live about 150-200K if the oil is changed regularly. On a silicone bore, they will last literally forever if the oil is changed. They just don't wear.
