450 SLC, corroded exhaust and water pump seal
hi there,
i'm thinking about buying a very cheap 450 SLC, it has a couple of things wrong with it and i was wondering if these were jobs that i could tackle successfully at home. i am a mediumly competant home mechanic 1. front section of exhaust corroded 2. water pump seal gone i would be very interested in any feedback on these jobs. thanking you in advance for your help. justin |
These are not difficult jobs, but you need a good set of metric tools, especially hex-bit sockets and a way to get the entire car a couple of feet off the ground.
The entire exhaust will probably need to be replaced from the manifolds back and do not even think about dealer parts. I would warn you that a cheap Mercedes, especially a 107, can become a very expensive car if it has been neglected. Do a search on Wayward Woman to see my investment in a cheap 380SL. |
thanks for the info, i will check your site as i've always had a soft spot for a wayward woman!
