Getting back to the M112 engines, do these engines have Nikasil cylinder liners?
BTW, the problem BMW had with Nikasil coating seems to be from high-sulfer content fuel from South America. Apparently, this fuel is cheap and is sold in so-called *supermarket* outlets. There IS a difference in fuel quality dispite what some people will tell you. |

Just to answer my own question, the new engines use alusil cylinder liners. This is what previous V8 and V12 blocks were made of. These liners are not effected by high sulfur fuel.
They also have forged rods and crankshafts. The timing chains are duplex. All and all, it looks like these engines are bulletproof and another example of brilliant MB engineering. |
