this parts guy online is offering the regulator for $167 but he said that usually you hav4e to change the blower also... the blower with the regulator cost $269 ... you think that it is only the regulator??? the fan currently does not operate at all
|
I have never replaced one. I have seen them a little sticky, but I usually drip some lube on the bearings and clean the water drain on the upper panel and it cures the problem.

If the motor is turning freely then it is likely the regulator.

you don't say which car. on the w210, you need an updated blower to go with the updated regulator, assuming your car was pre-2000. I'm not sure if any other models had anything similar.

put 12 volts to the motor... see if it turns freely.
usually you just need to lube it up a bit. |
Going through the same thing with our 98 W210. Chassis number is prior to the update. I am hoping I can find a used regulator (for now) and replace the three updated parts later.
Any suggestions? |
You can replace the pre-facelift regulator with one from the W140, but you need to solder on the connectors from your existing one (keep as much wire length as you can). There's a writeup somewhere.
