Using regular pliers to remove spark plug wires

Has anyone used regular pliers to remove the spark plug wires?

I went to two auto supply stores and the spark plug wire pliers that they sell don't look that they would grip the boot wires any different or any better than if I used regular pliers. I know performance products sells s.plug wire pliers for $30 w/c I find too expensive.

Any thoughts?

TIA,

regular pliers work for me just use a rag so you don't puncture the rubber boot.

After you get the plug wires off, spray the inside of the boots with HD silicon spray and the next time they'll pop right off w/o using pliers.

Just a firm grasp with your fingers is all that it'll take.

You don't need pliers at all, just grab the SPARK PLUG BOOT and twist until it turns a little then pull it straight out. Do not pull on the wire itself. Doing this with pliers is not a good idea, because you are placing concentrated force on the metal boot and could damage it.

Good luck,
