190e front tire wear...sway bar bushings?
Found tire wear on the inner sides of both front wheels, slightly worse on the right one.Rear ones are fine.
Tested the shocks with the "bounce test" and they look normal. Other thing I have noticed is that at around 90km/h, when going over small bumps, there is a "thunk" which can be felt thru' the steering column. What gives??? From other posts, the sway bar bushings would be suspect. Could it also be other stuff like ball joints, steering damper, center link, etc? Yesterday, on both front tyres, I found the pressures were around 20psi, so I had them up to around 28.Would low tyre pressures account for the wear? Azhari Babybenz 1991 190e 1.8 |
Worn sway bar bushings in no way affect suspension geometry, so will not give tire wear problems. The steering damper is unlikely to be a problem also. Worn ball joints, struts, steering idler bushings, or steering linkage pivots are most likely to cause uneven tire wear, - or misadjusted toe.

Thanks for narrowing down the playing field for me.
I'll have the car up on stands and check for play. Azhari Babybenz 1991 190e 1.8 |
