MB tool # 601 589 02 40 00_where to get it and how much?
I need to break loose the bolt holding vibration damper. MB manual calls for tool 601 589 02 40 00 that holds the flywheel from moving. Anyone knows where to get it and how much or even borrow it (************************ doesn't list it). Any help would be appreciated.
PS. I am trying to remove the lower timing cover on a 93 190e with 2.6L engine. Meza

Try the following. The last URL is an MB dealer in California, well-known for web parts sales. They may sell tools. Some MB dealers will not sell tools to individuals.

That tool is WAY overpriced in my opinion, and not necessary. I personally use a piece of wood (mallet hammer handle) and wedge it up in there so the flex plate(?) won't turn. You have to remove the small plastic cover to get inside the bell housing.
Works like a charm! Good luck

Pauls suggestion is your best bet. I would have used a screwdriver on the gear teeth. The wood suggestion is probably safer since it doesn't require someone to hold the screwdriver and has less chance of damage by a wild screwdriver holder.
Good luck, |

Thank you all for your inputs. I have decided to buy the tool from the local MB dealer for $126.00 +Tax. I am afraid to damge the flywheel without it and not really willing to repalce/risk damaging anymore parts. I checked all the websites listed and Samsung tools has it for $159.00 and the California dealer for $226. My local MB dealer had the best deal of all.
