Hi,
Change it everytime. Cheap compared to an engine. Are you changing the oil yourself? Topsider or other way of sucking oil out of dipstick? Is the filter on the top of the engine or the bottom? Also, loose the K&N filters. They will screw up MAS sensors over time. Read -- $$$. I believe your model has a MAS. The very thin hotwire that reads air flow gets coated with oil from the K&N and then you replace the MAS. K&Ns work well on small airbox designs without a MAS. MBs have large airboxes and do not need them. Use an OEM filter. Regards, |

chicago124's post is a little bit confusing because Limited Driver only asked about oil filter. Yes you can use K&N oil filters too but it's a better idea to use OEM oil filters like Mann & Hengst (cheaper and better)
For air filters, do not use K&N filters because their embedded oil may screw up MAS sensors ($$$). Some oil analysis also seem to show high concentrations of silicon and dirt if K&N air filters are used. So stick with regular OEM air filters. ERic |

K&N
Hi ericnguyen,
Confusing? It seems pretty obvious to me that Iam referring to K&N air filters:-) I noted the signature line listing K&N filter, which usually means air filter. That's why I made the notation about them. As for oil filters, I go with OEM. Regards, |

K&N oiled air filters don't screw up MAS sensors, but owners that over oil the pre-oiled filters do!

So the bottom line is that i should change the oil filter every time i change the oil right. Because i dont use K&N oil filters anyway. I have only K&N air filters.

Yup, change the filter. Use some of the fresh oil to lube the filter seal before you install, unless you have one of those alloy filter cartridge type units, then just drop in a new paper filter.

Hi,
It's all about the love of MB's right? :-) The great thing about this forum is the broad variety of views -- and worldwide too. One thing that we learned from our dads was change the oil and filter often. Still good advice even from 50 years ago. Funny, some things never change. Things wear out. You can't avoid it but with proper care, you can delay it. Leaving the lecturn now:-) Regards to all, |
