Upon reinstallation of the seats in my 500SL the seat height lever always returns up instead of staying in the down position. If the lever is returned to the normal (down) position it will jack the seat one notch when removing ones self from the seat. I did spray WD40 and wipe the gear mechanism before installation. Perhaps the bolts are not correctly torqued. Any ideas?

You need to take it back apart and make sure the adjustment paws are in the right time with each other.

I never took it apart, only took out the seats. I love the design, and since it's manual, 6 bolts and lift out the seat. It is odd both left and right seats doing it. Perhaps the paws are out of adjustment anyway. There were foil gum wrappers lodged in the seat track holes and the height mechanism. I bushed the fore and aft adhust lever as it was too worn to operate.
But I do not know how to adjust the timing of the paws. Thank you for your help! Looks to me like your first post is still there...it's right on top of your most recent one!
